How to Apply Adhesive on Denture (4 Steps)

Denture adhesive is used to keep dentures in place during normal daily activity. It is applied to the fitting surface of dentures. In the mouth, with the presence of water from saliva, the material swells and creates an adhesion between the denture and the gum that improves the retention and stability on denture wearing.

How to apply denture adhesive

1. Squeeze a small amount of denture adhesive.

With most brands, a little squeeze already produces an amount that is similar in size to a pencil eraser, which will be enough. Carefully apply this small amount in the central point of the groove in the denture. Do not try to spread the glue.

2. Repeat squeezing a similar amount of adhesive and apply it near the left edge of the denture slot.

Follow with a third application near the right edge of the slot. For more implants may be needed two more applications strategically placed to the left and right more or less the same distance from the central application.

3. Test fit.

Place the prosthesis in position on the gums. The prosthesis must be secure without slipping or causing discomfort. No adhesive should drip excess of dentures in the mouth or along the exposed areas in the gum line. If there is any discomfort, remove the dentures and add one or two extra applications until the denture stay well in place. Go to the next denture plate. Apply the adhesive, taking care not to squeeze the product in each application. Insert the card and see if it is firm and comfortable. If not, remove and add one or two more applications as needed.
